Very good thoughts on this topic. I personally don’t like the use of the word. No matter how you spin it, it has a negative history and nothing good comes from a word rooted in hate. Why can’t it be “What up King?” when we address each other instead of the “N” word or word(s). We are all royal and should speak words that reflect the essence of our royalty in everything we do. Just my thoughts.
No exception bad word
Use of the N word or N***A or N***er are both equally bad to use period. Now it has gotten to the point where white racists such as rush limbaugh to say it openly to millions of viewers. It has tried to be explained to me that N***A is a term of endearment. I beg to differ. I see this as a lowering of the bar of our pride. White folks thinks we are confused because we use the word so openly with each other and through music. White folks say “what the hell?” And I have seen this being used and accepted more and more in our community by both whites and blacks. We must stop using such terms that degrade us as a people for it will never be accepted by me and I will always view them as fighting words whether used by black or white.
I never use the word. Unlike most of your posters, I’m an old (56) white guy. I found this site because I love listening to GameTime. I work in a large factory and I rarely hear that word anymore. The best thing about the factory, is it has a diverse population. (Sure it is mostly white, but Seattle is mostly white.) Once people make friends with other races, you realize that we all have the same motivations and frustrations (how do I get my teenager to pick up her crap?). I don’t blame anyone for considering it a “fighting” word. I believe it is a word that is worth the fight.
