For over 13 years Gwen Allen has been a tireless champion and a voice for the people when it comes to political awareness and economic development in Kent and the South King County Region. And, now she seeks to take that unselfish effort to a new level as she places her name into the race for Kent City Council Position #3 as a write-in candidate.
Allen has a proven track record of leadership. She is the Executive Director of the Kent Black Action Commission (KBAC), past President of the Kent Lyons, an active member of the Kent Chamber of Commerce as a Board Member and Membership Committee. She also owns and operates her own business – C & G Hair and Beauty Supplies. In addition to her experience as owner/operator of C & G Hair and Beauty Supplies, Allen has retail sales and management experience in the grocery industry.
Allen is challenging incumbent Les Thomas. Thomas has served on Kent City Council for 12 years and is seeking to extend that to 16 years. Allen feels that it is past time for Thomas to hand the torch to someone new to carry Kent into the future.
According to Allen, fresh ideas and innovative thinking is what is needed now as Kent sits on the precipice of expediential growth in economic opportunities and population. Allen believes that she has the skill set, passion, and energy it will take to meet these opportunities and challenges.
Allen will host a write-in “Campaign Kick-off” this Friday Sept. 4 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Sam’s Sport Bar – 23803 104th Ave, SE, Kent, WA 98031.
