Annette Smiley

Annette Smiley works to eradicate homelessness, drug addiction and domestic violence  through the Seattle Gospel Mission’s Women and Children’s Shelter, Hope Place.

Smiley, a mother of two and grandmother of six, grew up in Seattle’s Central Area of Seattle after her family moved to Seattle in the early sixties. She attended Madrona Elementary School and attended Garfield High School for one year. Smiley says that her decision to leave school was the beginning of 25 years of adversity in her life. However, she believes that those adversities helped her develop and become a role model and servant to the women and children that she now works with on a daily basis.

“I have the amazing opportunity to uplift, encourage and walk alongside people daily to help them come out of homelessness, drug addiction and domestic violence situations,” says Smiley. “God has equipped me to love on those in the greatest need.”
