After a strong defensive first quarter from both teams, the Rainer Ravens and CD Panthers 11U teams went into the second quarter scoreless. It was looking as though both teams would be going into halftime tied at zero, but the Ravens’ J’Shawn Wilson had other plans. Breaking free on a nice cutback to the left, Wilson ran nearly untouched for a 30-yard touchdown to give his team life before the break.
Although the Ravens couldn’t carry the momentum into the third quarter due to some excellent defense by the Panthers, Wilson struck again with a 5-yard touchdown run to cap off a very successful drive by the Ravens offense. With the opposition up by 14 at this point, it looked like the end for the CD Panthers. But an immediate and resounding response by Jaylon Pitre, who burst into the endzone from 10 yards out, put the Panthers back in the game.
Needing an onside kick and a quick score, the Panthers found space in the Ravens kick return coverage and recovered the ball. While executing an almost perfect 2-minute drill, the Panthers roared down the field and with 18 seconds left, Panthers quarterback Rashawn Tymony found receiver Cayne Rodriqez for a touchdown. Clawing back from down 14, the Panthers had to make the extra point to send it to overtime. But the Ravens defense, playing with great determination and even better defense, pulled off an amazing goal line stop to secure the victory.
“This is what we do,” said a jubilant Ravens Coach after the game. “We teach our kids,we don’t concern [ourselves] with anything else. We teach our kids to be prepared for each and every scenario. That’s what we do. That’s who we are. That’s why we’re the dynasty because we will always be the most prepared. We’re ready for anything anybody has to bring towards us.”
