There are always fireworks when the rival 11U Benson Bruins and Rainier Ravens meet, and this contest proved to be one of the best in recent history! Like it’s been in years past, this game was a battle of two dominant defenses. The Ravens one-two punch of size and speed was making Benson work for every inch. Likewise, the Benson run game and overall team effort put pressure on the Ravens defense, who responded accordingly.
It looked like the Ravens were going to score on an outstanding punt return, but the ball was dropped at the 5-yard line and the offense was held scoreless. The Benson defense was led by strong performances from Eli Marshall, Anthony Dunston Jr. and Lennox Parkinson. Parkinson had a key interception in the second half, but ultimately the offense was not able to capitalize. The Ravens had some great tackles by Tim Tyson-Rolle and some punishing hits by Michael Wayman and J’Shaun Wilson. Jaylinn Haywood had a monster day, wreaking havoc throughout every point of the game.
Ultimately, the Ravens were able to get two points on the board with a safety, winning the game 2-0 over Benson. Their stout defense was able to put massive pressure on the Benson offense, and when Benson was on their own two-yard line, Haywood and the Ravens were able to push them back and force the safety.
After the game, Coach Matt of the Ravens had this to say about his team’s performance. “Sometimes you shoot yourself in the foot, but were gonna go back, adjust and be back at it next week. The defense was tough, but that’s who we are. That’s gonna be there every game. We just gotta wake up.”
