Now this was a football game! The game of the week featured two electric offenses, coupled with stout and hungry defenses. The Rainer Ravens played host to the 5 Star Cougars in a match up you’d have hated to miss.
The beginning of the game set the speed of how this one was to pan out: fast. Rainier came out swinging first, with their offense storming down field. Then at the 5-yard line, Zirek King Turner-Sims punched it in for the opening score. Jonathan Sisk, II and the Cougar offense found a hole in the Ravens defense early. Sisk broke free for a 40-yard run to even the game at 7.
Not to be outdone by his opposing running back, Turner-Sims screamed through his offensive line for a 30-yard rushing touchdown, putting his team back on top, 14-7. Sisk was eager to respond and did he ever. Another 40-yard touchdown run, and Sisk and the Cougars drew even at 14. But once again, leaning on their star running back, the Ravens struck back as Turner-Sims made massive moves, and sliced and diced his was to the endzone in what looked like the game-winning score.
All Rainer had to do was clutch up on defense and defend in the final seconds. 5 Star, with 2 timeouts left, started their drive from the 40. With an almost meticulous and perfect drive, Tripp Thomas called “tie”. He ran in to the endzone to level the game at 21, and after a game saving tackle by Malachi Taplin, who had 13 tackles and 6 tackles for loss, the game ended in a tie.
“It was a good game,” said Coach Tae of the Ravens. “They came out hungry and our boys did too. We’re gonna see them next week, and congratula-tions to both teams.”
Coach Marcel of 5 Star said, “my kids never gave up, they fought their hearts out and they stayed in the game. They kept it alive, and the next time we see them, it’s gonna be another hell of a game.”
