The Panthers and the Bruins faced off in a first round playoff match up of powerhouses. This game was poised to be a good one, as CD and Benson always battle hard on the field against each other. The Panther offense was on display in this one as they ran all over Benson in a convincing win.
J’Andre Castillo opened the scoring for the Panthers early in the first quarter. He capped off an impressive drive down the field with a 7-yard touchdown run to put Benson up six to nothing. Then, once the defense had forced a three and out, Dreson Jimerson did it all on his own and took the punt to the house from 60 yards out!
Castillo scored for the second time in the second quarter to give the Panthers a 19 to 0 lead at the half. With the defense playing great, forcing turnovers, and getting stops, it looked like this game was in firm control. All the Panthers had to do was maintain momentum and they would be headed to the championship.
And maintain momentum was exactly what they did. A 60-yard touchdown catch by Cayne Rodriquez from Rayshawn Tymony seemed to knock the wind out of the Benson team. A Tymony touchdown on a scramlbe in the final quarter and a last second response by Benson’s Jamari Jones saw the game end with the Panthers moving on.
The Panthers Coach Damien Harper had this to say after the win. “We came out and played hard. These kids have been putting in effort all year, and today was just a manifestation of that. All the yelling and coaching, they left it on the field, and we got the results that we wanted.”
Final Score: CD Panthers 32, Benson Bruins 6
