ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC.ZETA PI LAMBDA CHAPTERSeattle, WashingtonOctober 11, 2004With PHOTOALPHAS ON THE MOVE; THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACKIn 1906, seven African American students of Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, banded together to support each other academically and socially. They laid the foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha, the oldest African American intercollegiate fraternity in the United States. The enduring legacy of scholarship, manly deeds and love for humanity now encircles the globe and has been extended to the Seattle King County area where the Zeta Pi lambda Chapter is poised to continue that legacy for the 2004-2005 fraternal year.On September 7, 2004, Brother Albert Thomas received the ceremonial Leadership Gavel from Br. Dr. Jim Smith. Determined to recognize the awesome power of the faith and of the faith community, President Thomas asked the brothers to join him in worship at the historic Mount Zion Baptist Church, Seattle on Sunday, October 10, 2004. Host pastor Dr. Leslie Braxton and the pulpit associates were pleased to see nearly two full pews of Alpha men in worship. As Brother Thomas had envisioned it, the distinguished group of Alpha attorneys, businessmen, health care providers, educators and others were emboldened and empowered by the message from visiting minister The Rev. Jason A. Barr, Senior Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, PA. Alpha Phi Alpha will continue to brave the elements as it continues to roll out its bevy of scholarship, mentoring, teen male responsibility (Project Alpha), voter education, adopt-a-street and other community-based programs. For further information, or to enroll your youth in one of these Class I programs, please contact the Zeta Pi Lambda Chapter at PO Box 21125, Seattle, WA 98111.
