Seattle Goodwill is celebrating Earth Day with local musicians, CEOs, athletes and community leaders who are “breaking up” with an outfit, Breakup4Good, and publicly donating it to Goodwill – and keep it from the landfill! Some of the outfits will be auctioned off to benefit Goodwill’s job training and education programs.
Over 60 individuals and organizations donated items to Breakup4good including: Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, Sounders FC Alumni Roger Levesque, former Seattle SuperSonics Coach Lenny Wilkens, Chef in the Hat Thierry Rautureau, Restaurateur Linda Derschang, Geekwire Co-founder John Cook, Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Teatro ZinZanni.
Shoppers can search Seattle Goodwill’s eBay store using the hashtag “breakup4good” from April 13 – May 1 to bid on any of these donated outfits or visit www.seattlegoodwill.org/earthday to see photos and videos of the items donated.
“These community members have generously donated an outfit to Breakup4Good which helps our mission and inspires others to donate. Because of donations like these over 40 million pounds of useful goods have been kept out of landfills,” said Daryl Campbell, President and CEO of Seattle Goodwill. “These donations also help fund our free job training and education and last year we were able to help over 9,200 people.”
From April 20 – May 1, Seattle Goodwill will be giving away prizes twice a day on our Facebook page. This year, 25 local businesses have donated over $2,500 in prizes to celebrate Earth Day!
