Heir 12U Knocks Off Benson In Battle Of Unbeatens

By RayJaun Stelly, The Seattle Medium

In a highly-anticipated matchup, the Benson Bruins and Heir 12U finally squared off in a battle of the undefeated teams that looked to hand one another their first loss of the season. In last week’s games, both the Bruins and Heir won by double-digits before taking the field against each other to determine who would be deemed the number one team in the division at the midway point of the season.

As both teams managed to put up huge points against prior opponents, the game would get off to a scoreless start. Offensively, both teams struggled as passes were not completed, and the rushing attacks were being blown up for little to no yardage. Defensively, the defensive lines forced penalties for negative yards, deflected passes in coverage, made tackles for loss, and consistently made things tough for both offenses.

Going into the second quarter, Heir found their rhythm on offense by running the ball and three minutes into the quarter fans would erupt as Briytan Bailey scored the games first touchdown on a 20-yard run, giving them a 7-0 lead.

Heir’s defense would complement their offense during Benson’s next possession. Heirs’ defensive backs continued to be disruptive, and a miscommunication between Benson’s quarterback and running back resulted in the ball being lost on the ground and recovered by Heir’s defensive front.

On the very next play, Bailey scored his second touchdown on back-to-back possessions, and with 9 seconds left until halftime Heir’s defense would sack the Benson quarterback as they went into halftime with a 12-0 lead.

Going into the second half, Heir would continue to be dominant defensively which fueled their offense. The defense forced bad snaps, tackles for loss or no gain, and forced a fumble at the one-yard line.

As they kept Benson out of sync, Heir would quickly increase their lead.

Heir quarterback Brennan Abbott would find Jayce Halasz for a 40-yard touchdown pass and on their next possession Bailey would explode for 80 yards, scoring his third touchdown of the game and at the blink of an eye Heir scored 13 unanswered points, expanding their lead to 25-0.

Benson’s contentious fight regardless of the score allowed them to build traction. Refusing to be held scoreless, Bruins’ quarterback Antoine Williams, Jr. would connect with receiver Kalen Hollins twice on a scoring drive, completing a 40-yard pass and 20-yard touchdown pass as the game’s final buzzer sounded off.

Despite giving up the game’s final touchdown, Heir was victorious winning 25-7 over the Benson Bruins as remained undefeated on the season and tied with their younger brothers, Heir 11U, atop of the 12U division. The Bruins look to regroup against 253 Heir on October 1at Foss High School, while Heir will put their undefeated record on the line against 253 Spartans on October 2at Chief Leschi.
