Jenkins Appointed New Director Of Washington State Commission on African American Affairs

Olympia –Rosalund Jenkins was appointed executive director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs by Gov. Christine Gregoire last month. Prior to joining the Commission, Rosalund served as marketing director in the Washington State Employment Security Department, where she earned multiple quality awards and the Governor’s Distinguished Management Leadership Award. Prior to her stint at Employment Security, she served as a special assistant to governors Booth Gardner and Mike Lowry. Her role included researching and writing various documents on the governors’ budget and executive policy proposals to the Legislature. Rosalund began her career as an announcer on 1420 AM KRIZ. She also worked as a reporter and photographer for The Seattle Medium before joining state service in 1985. Rosalund is the only child of African American parents who met while both were serving as non-commissioned officers in the U.S. Air Force. She has lived abroad and in five U.S. states. At last count, she has attended 17 different schools, colleges, and universities. She holds a bachelor’s in broadcast media, a master’s in public administration, and two post-graduate certificates from the University of Washington, one in web technology and another in integrated marketing communications.
