Judge Hatchett To Keynote 26th Annual Youth & Law Forum

UPDATE: Due to a family emergency, Judge Glenda Hatchett will not be at this year’s Youth & Law Forum.

Youth, and parents- guardians, do you know the perils and pitfalls of social media? Drivers, how should you respond when stopped by police? If you have a juvenile record, what are the steps to sealing or vacating your record? What about school. If you have suspended or expelled do you know your rights? Parents, how should you respond if you think your child is experimenting with drugs?

Get answers to these and other burning questions affecting youth at the 26th annual Youth and Law Forum. This free event will be held on Sat., April 23 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at First A.M.E. Church – 1522 – 14th Ave. in Seattle.

The keynote speaker for the event will be corporate attorney, Fulton County Chief Juvenile Judge and T.V personality Judge Glenda Hatchett. Hatchett — a seasoned litigator with over 30 years of experience as a judge, corporate lawyer, corporate and non-profit board member – served as Chief Presiding Judge of the Fulton County (Atlanta, Georgia) Juvenile Court—becoming the first African-American Chief Presiding Judge of a state court in Georgia and head of one of the largest juvenile court systems in the country. In addition, she presided over the two-time Emmy nominated nationally syndicated show, Judge Hatchett, for 13 seasons.

Also on hand to welcome and engage youth and their parents/guardians at the event will be such community icons as Nicholas Brown, General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee; Miss Black Washington De’Vaughnn Williams; Loren Miller Bar President and Mayoral Counsel Ian Warner; U.S. District Court Judge Richard Jones; and a host of additional judicial officers, attorneys, juvenile probation counselors and law enforcement representatives from BLEAW, NOBLE and the Seattle Police Department.

Youth in attendance will be able to explore different careers in the justice system, talk with justice system officials and as have an opportunity to monitor the antics of the Seattle Police Department robot.
