Rashelle Tanner Elected New Board Chair Of The Urban League Of Metropolitan Seattle

The Board of Directors of The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle recently announced the election of Rashelle Tanner as the League’s new chair of the board. Tanner, who was elected unanimously, will take the helm of the Seattle affiliate board of directors of the Urban League Movement after serving as the vice chair of the organization since 2017.

“I am looking forward to working with Rashelle and our entire Board of Directors on continuing to position the League into a 21stCentury organization,” said Michelle Merriweather, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. “It is exciting to know that I have the support of Rashelle, someone with deep roots in Seattle, to help chart the course for where we will be five to ten years from now.”

Tanner, a native of Seattle, becomes the chair as the organization prepares for its year-long 90thAnniversary celebration, which is scheduled to kick off with their Annual Breakfast at the Westin Seattle in November. Tanner will lead the current roster of 22 board of directors, who represent some of Seattle’s strongest corporations, organizations, and community leaders.

“Rashelle Tanner is one of the bright young stars of the Urban League Movement,” said Jon Bridge, Board Chair Emeritus of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. “I congratulate our entire Board on a great selection and I pledge to work closely and enthusiastically with Ms. Tanner as she prepares to support one of our most important community into its 90thyear anniversary.”

Tanner is currently an attorney in Microsoft’s Litigation, Competition & Compliance Group and is responsible for the values-based compliance learning program for Microsoft’s Office of Legal Compliance. Her scope includes creating Microsoft’s award-winning annual Standards of Business Conduct course with innovative and popular delivery methods uniquely designed for retention.  This annual course is translated into 17 languages and is required learning for Microsoft’s 130,000 company and subsidiary employees and Board of Directors.

Tanner is also an adjunct faculty for the Master of Legal Studies and Compliance Risk Management program at Seattle University School of Law.

In addition to the Urban League, Tanner serves on advisory boards for Meredith Mathews YMCA (local) and Momentum A.C.E.S. (national), which explores the intersections of anti-bribery, anti-corruption, international trade and sanctions compliance challenges on a global regulatory scale.  She also serves as the Judicial Evaluation Co-Chair for the Loren Miller Bar Association.

Tanner is a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow 2012, Seattle University Law School, and Howard University.  She is licensed to practice law in Washington State and holds the distinction of being sworn-in and admitted by the United States Supreme Court.
