The Seattle chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is recruiting young ladies for their two programs, the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (Shabazz Delta Academy) and Dr. Jean Noble Delta GEMS (Delta GEMS).
The Shabazz Delta Academy provides activities that augment the math, science and technology curriculum for girls in 6th-8th grades. Participants also engage in opportunities that help them navigate the challenges of pre-teen life. A primary goal of the program is to prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century.
Girls who regularly attend sessions and participate are given priority placement in our Delta GEMS high school program.
The Delta GEMS program helps guide young ladies in 9th-12th grades on how to make the best of their high school years and further their education after graduation. At each meeting, participants engage in interactive workshops or go on field trips designed to provide opportunities for them to sharpen and enhance their leadership and collaborative skills. Each year, the Delta GEMS plan and implement a citywide TEEN SUMMIT as one of their culminating activities.
Both programs meet every 3rd Saturday of the month during the academic school year from 10am –noon. These two programs are open to residents of King, Kitsap and Snohomish Counties. All expenses are paid by Seattle Alumnae Chapter with the exception of transportation which parents must provide.
Details and applications are available online at www.seattledeltas.org and due September 29th. Questions concerning both programs can be directed to info@seattledeltas.org.
