Starting today, a total of 417,000 registered voters in Seattle will receive new voter registration cards through the U.S. mail. The new cards indicate each voter’s new city council district as well as congressional, legislative and county council districts.
In this year’s primary and general elections, voters will elect seven out of the nine City Council members by district. The remaining two positions will be elected “at large” (citywide) in positions 8 and 9.
This is the first year Seattle voters will elect council members by district, the result of a 2013 vote that amended the City of Seattle charter to establish City Council districts. Voters can also find their district online.
Mailing the cards now allows time for voters to update their voter registration record with King County Elections before the August 4 primary. Seattle voters who haven’t received a card by June 8 can contact King County Elections at www.kingcounty.gov/elections, 206-296-VOTE or 919 SW Grady Way in Renton. The cards are for informational purposes only and aren’t necessary for voters to vote.
