THANKSGIVING SCHOOL BREAK EVENTS FOR KIDS AND TEENS AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY NOV. 20 – 29

The Seattle Public Library has a variety of activities scheduled for children, tweens and teens every day of the Thanksgiving week school break. Beginning Friday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 29, the Library will offer free programs ranging from Lego Mania and story workshops to movies, chess games and more! See below for the schedule of events, or visit www.spl.org/schoolbreaks.

El Bibliobandido: A Story Workshop – Warning: El Bibliobandido, the story-eating bandit, is on the loose! The Seattle Public Library is looking for the juiciest of stories, and invites children ages 8 to 10 to attend a hands-on workshop about bookmaking, science and storytelling. Registration is required; call the branch to sign up.

Let’s Talk About Books – This book group is for children ages 8-12 of any reading abilities. Instead of a single book for our discussions, kids are welcome to read any book from this month’s theme: Music & Sound!

International Games Day – Celebrate International Games Day by dropping in to play board games or video games at six locations of The Seattle Public Library. Most locations will host an event on Saturday, Nov. 21 and the South Park Branch will extend the celebration to Saturday, Nov. 28.

Lego Mania – Join us to play with Lego bricks! Create something super fantastic from your own imagination.

Playing with Words: A Poetry Workshop – Children in grades 3-5 who enjoy making stories, songs or poems are invited to learn how to play with words with former Washington State Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken. Registration is required; call the branch to sign up.

Local author visit – Children’s author Laurie B. Arnold will talk about how she became an author and her recent book, “Hello There, We’ve Been Waiting for You!”

Craft Extravaganza – Families are invited to use their imaginations and enjoy creating crafts!

Vacation Week Fun – Wondering what to do when school’s out Thanksgiving week? Drop in at the Central Library for movies, hands-on crafts and activities!

Family Movies – Children, tweens, teens and their parents are invited to watch movies at the Library.

Bow-Wows and Books – Children, tweens and teens can practice reading with certified reading dogs. Certified therapy dogs and their handlers will join young readers to read one-on-one in a relaxing and nonjudgmental environment.

Math Buddies – Children in grades K-5 are invited to drop in at the Library to get better at math by playing learning games with a high school mentor.

Drop-in Chess – Children and teens are invited to drop by for fun and casual games of chess.

Game On! – Tweens and teens are invited to come to the Library for board games and open play on the Kinect and Wii.

Learning Buddies – Children in grades K-5 are invited to drop in at the Library to get better at math and reading by playing learning games with a high school mentor.
