Two Washington state players chosen in second round

NEW YORK (AP) – The Washington State Cougars had three players chosen and the Washington Huskies had two players picked in the NFL draft that ended Sunday. In the sixth round on the final day of the two-day draft, cornerback Derrick Johnson of the Huskies went to San Francisco with the 205th pick and offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong of the Cougars was selected by Philadelphia with the 211st choice. Washington State safety Hamza Abdullah was selected in the seventh round by Tampa Bay at 231. On Saturday, offensive tackle Khalif Barnes of Washington was picked in the second round with the 52nd selection by Jacksonville and Washington State cornerback Karl Paymay was chosen by Denver with the 76th selection. Washington suffered through its worst season in history, at 1-10, while Washington State went 5-6 last season. The first player from the state of Washington to be drafted was offensive tackle Michael Roos of Eastern Washington, who was chosen in the second round on Saturday with the 41st overall pick.
