AFRICAN AMERICAN CLERGY WOMENDOING SOMETHING ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE African American clergy women from across the country were in Seattle last week for a domestic violence training seminar put on by the Faith Institute of Seattle. The training titled “Religious Resources & Roadblocks To Ending Violence Again Women” was an effort to help these clergy women become better attuned to the cause and effects of domestic violence in our churches and in our communities. The women pastors, preachers, and directors of various ministries came representing churches and congregations from California, Texas, Washington DC, Detroit, Michigan, Louisiana, Missouri, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Illinois, New York, Florida, Alabama, Ohio, and Kentucky. The communities of faith represented were Baptist, United Methodist, Non-Denominational, Pentecostal, COGIC, AME, the Christian Reformed Church, CME, campus ministries, prison ministries, and various other ministries. Notables in attendance included the Rev Brenda J. Little, Pastor, Bethany Baptist Church of Christ, Skokie, Illinois; Rev. Dr. Linda H. Hollies, author of some twenty plus books. An informal and free discussion led by Celestine Berrysmith on “Domestic Violence” will be held on Monday evening, April 25 at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. Please call Rev. Hall at 425-226-5122 for details. Caption: Visiting clergy women pose with Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, Pastor Emeritus of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Seattle; Rev. LaVerne C. Hall; and Rev.
