As part of the community’s review of governance options, the West Hill Governance Task Force is hosting four neighborhood meetings in the West Hill neighborhood to discuss priorities for public services. Meeting dates and locations by neighborhood include: March 1: Hilltop & Skyway, Boys & Girls Club, 12400 – 80th Ave. S.; March 3: Bryn Mawr & Lakeridge, Lakeridge Elementary, 7400 S. 115th St.; March 8: Campbell Hill & Panorama, Skyway Library, 7614 S. 126th; March 10: Skycrest & Earlington, Skyway Park Bowl, 11819 Renton Ave. S. All meetings are from 7-8:30 p.m. Residents are invited to attend any meeting although the meetings are intended to focus on the service needs of those neighborhoods. West Hill is a currently unincorporated area bordered by the cities of Tukwila, Renton and Seattle. Residents of the area are studying governance options, which include annexation to Renton, Seattle or Tukwila; incorporation as a new city; or remaining unincorporated. One of these options could be decided by a vote of the community as early as September 2005. The goal of neighborhood meetings is to hear about public services most important to residents. This information will allow governance “profiles” to be drafted that will describe what each governance option would be like for residents of the area (annexation, incorporation, remaining unincorporated). The review is being guided by the West Hill Task Force, made up of 15 residents, employers and business owners from West Hill, and King County. The group plans to analyze various governance options and present an assessment and recommendations to the West Hill community in summer 2005. In 2004, King County embarked on a multi-year initiative, partnering with cities, communities and the state legislature to accomplish annexations at a faster pace, finding additional funding sources to smooth the transition to city government, and, where appropriate, seeking changes in state annexation law.
