Given What You Know About The Incident That Saw Two African American Males Arrested At A Starbucks In Philadelphia, Do You Believe African Americans Should Boycott Starbucks?
DeShawn Jackson…
I think we should take action and we should hold Starbucks’ employees accountable. I don’t know if it’s just Starbucks itself. I think they should start training their employees better. I also believe there are a lot of other places that feel the same way about African Americans being in their place of business or doing business with them, so we would have to boycott a whole bunch of places. We wouldn’t be able to go anywhere or do anything, but I think it’s more about the employees more than anything else.
Shermaine Singleton…
I definitely think we should protest and hold Starbucks accountable globally, just across the board. If it happened in Philadelphia it most definitely could happen here. And whose to say it hasn’t happen here, just to say that it hasn’t been recorded here and no one has felt the need to complain because Seattle is a huge market for coffee drinkers. I myself do not drink coffee, I do not care about coffee, but Starbucks does need to be held accountable as a corporation and action must be taken.
Napoleon Foster…
Yes, I think something should be done about Philly. An incident happened to me and a Japanese owner called me the N word, same kind of incident and I think they should be held accountable. They should pay out of their pockets, because incidents like Philadephia cause problems for people. No one has that unnecessary time to go to jail, bond out and go through the whole process for nothing, for nothing! That isn’t right, but you show me something in this world that is right. If it ain’t right pay up and that’s the way I feel.
Precious Grant…
Ido feel Starbucks should be held accountable for what they did to those two Black men in Philly. It was discrimination, it was racism and I really don’t believe it was fair, so they should be held accountable for it.
Delanor Junis…
My answer to the question is yes, but we should protest and hold all of corporate America accountable to these standards, not just Starbucks, all companies. I at least acknowledge that Starbucks recognized it and didn’t try to down play it and say it wasn’t what it really was. So in that respect, OK Starbucks I can work with you. Some companies try to play like “oh it wasn’t that way, we’re being over sensitive”, so I can work with Starbucks because they acknowledged it and they’re trying to do something about it, like sensitivity training. So you have to work with people, this is engrained in our system.
Gregory Chester…
Yes, I think we should hold them accountable. Boycott, protest, whatever, but they should be held accountable. We just need to figure out how to hold them accountable. I do have more to add but it may take a minute.
