NAACP, Black Clergy To Hold Solidarity March & Rally For Charleston 9

The NAACP and the United Black Christian Clergy are co-hosting a march and rally for the Charleston 9 next Tues., July 7 in Seattle.

The march will start at 6:00 p.m. at First AME Church, 1522 – 14th Ave. Seattle and conclude at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 2200 MLK Way South in Seattle.

On June 17th, 2015 at “Mother” Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC nine lives were brutally taken in the name of racial hatred.

“In the spirit of social healing, everyone is invited to join with us to express condolences and help our nation to face the reality that race remains a problem in this nation,” said NAACP March Coordinator Claude Burfect. “The arrest of Dylann Storm Roof, the confessed murderer does not end this matter. In fact this matter makes even clearer that race is a major problem in our nation that must be dealt with.”

According to Reverend Lawrence “Ricky” Willis President of the United Black Christian Clergy, “The nation can no longer live in denial and act as if racism does not exist. Every week there is some incident, which involves the negative consequences of race. That is why the NAACP and the United Black Christian Clergy will join together with other faith communities and organizations to stress the need for the United States to face, discuss and meet head on the problem of race in this country.”
