Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) announced that their programs that serve youth and young people will continue to operate under the new statewide COVID-19 restrictions recently announced by Gov. Jay Inslee. According to SPR, the restrictions primarily focus on indoor social gatherings, indoor dining, indoor fitness, and other indoor activities. However, childcare and schooling are exempt from these new restrictions.
SPR maintains that safety will continue to be a priority at all Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) programs that serve youth and young people in our community. Health screenings will take place upon entry, mandatory mask wearing, and regularly cleaning of facilities are tenants of these programs operating within community centers.
Many of the programs continue to have childcare space available for those who are seeking care that supports virtual schooling. Scholarships are available to those in need (sliding scale coverage available both low-income and middle-income families).
Youth learning hubs are free to all who are interested, and provide safe, clean space to do virtual learning for students age 12-18. Staff are on site to support learning. Meals are provided, and there are enrichment opportunities when schooling is complete.
Wi-fi is available; participants must bring a laptop or tablet. Bringing a refillable water bottle is also suggested.
The hub sites are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and run until June 18, 2021.
