What Does Black Excellence Mean To You?

Leilani:
“I think the definition of Black excellence would be just realizing that it’s more of a community, and I think that it takes a village for the overall success and change to happen, and just recognition that everybody’s connected. I mean not to say that Black people and White people aren’t connected, but just Brown people in general. I feel like in order to make a change, we have to come together and actually make some noise instead of kind of just being like, Oh, well, my family has no immigrants, so that doesn’t affect me. I think you have to turn it into how can we all acknowledge that it affects us, and move on to how we can become successful.”
Isaiah:
“Black excellence means education and learning how to litigate.”
David:
“People have gone away from just the basic value of stuff and having virtues. A lot of people aren’t rooted, so they are chasing things that aren’t simple in life. Like being kind to people, patient, and having virtues. People don’t think it matters, but it matters. I remember when I was younger, I didn’t do as much, but then I got older, and as you get older, you should get wiser, right? So now, it is better for me and everybody.
Demarrio:
“I think Black excellence comes from everybody, regardless of where your generations come from. It’s all about what your generations are. Because now, if you’re just looking at the things that happened yesterday, and how this and that would happen on MTV or 106 & Park, or whatever, you know, keeping up with the Jones don’t go too far.”
Tovioj:
“That is a complex question, complex answer. So, this is not limited to what I say, but off the bat, first and foremost, community living, like a village. It is a holistic mindset where we all have one mission. You know what I’m talking about? We all have one singular goal and after that, it deduces the individual families. Us as a singular collective to prosper better than we are. Prosper in life, in business, in whatever.”
Patrick:
“Black excellence’s meaning embraces resilience, breaking barriers and thriving with pride and purpose. It’s about honoring our roots while paving the way for future generations. That’s Black excellence.”
