Does America Respect Black Culture?

Corina Harvery…

“The simple answer is no, because if they did more people would know about Black culture and the respect would be there. So again, the simple answer is no, there’s not much more to say. Black culture has always been an enigma, being from this area a lot of people ask where is the culture, unlike other places where Black community is prevalent and seen.”

Laureen Phillips…

“No I don’t think America respects Black culture or Black people, because of all the racism that is going on, the police and police brutality, the government and Trump inciting racism and everything that is going on in America.”

Malicte Tmariam…

No I do not think they respect Black culture, because its being ignored now a days. It should be focused on due to what is going on recently and I think Black culture is just not important to anyone these days.”

Sophia Tekola…

“No, you look at culture appropriations to the finest, what if America respected Black people as much as they respected Black culture you would go from Iggi to Elvis Presley, to Miley Cyrus, to Kardasians, not even acknowledging so much of the fashion of Black culture, look at anything Black in society, there is just no respect there, they don’t know the history, yeah No.”

Jai’el Putney…

“I think America understands Black culture, but I do not think they respect it due to the fact that a lot of people take Black culture and make it as their own. Such things like braids or I’m a little hesitant to say music, because music can be universal, but the way they speak within said music or the language that they choose to use or the way that they characterize what they believe our music sounds like, so there is an admiration for the culture, but no respect.”

Saundrea Collins…

“I believe that they respect parts of the culture, parts they can take as of appropriation in society and culture. They love the Hip Hop but they don’t love what comes with picture of the whole Hip Hop culture and genre. They respect culture to a certain degree, I guess I’m trying to say is they respect the culture just not the people.”
