The 30th annual Youth and Law Forum will be held this Sat., Sept. 26 to address the community on the law and its affects on our youth.
Due to the pandemic and the safety for everyone, the forum will be conducted for the very first time by an on-line, virtual platform. This enables participants of all ages to log on and participate from their homes, offices and community centers.
For over 30 years, this event has proven to be beneficial to middle and high school aged youth, parents and guardians by providing insight into their legal rights and responsibilities, especially when interacting with law enforcement officers
According to the event coordinators, participants will enjoy youth poetry and other performances; recorded greetings from celebrated State Supreme Court, U.S. District Court and other members of the judiciary; and acknowledgments from public and elected officials such as King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay and Hon. Larry Gossett, Ret.
In addition, famed athletes will join Charlemagne, Ice Cube and others in welcoming youth and parents to the forum. Several youth in attendance will win Samsung Chrome laptops; Woodland Park Zoo passes; bucks for Dick’s burgers and more. All registered participants will be eligible for gifts and prizes.
The event will also be comprised of a plethora of legal minds including members of the National Organization Of Black Law Enforcement (NOBLE), Black Law Enforcement Agency of Washington (BLEAW), Loren Miller Bar, and the Minority and Justice Commission, who will be on hand to discuss such critical topics as ”Speaking Truth to Power: Social Change and the Law;” Engaging Law Enforcement; and for adults “Taking Care of Yourself While TCB.” Panelists also include noted therapists, psychologists and counselors, public defenders and others. Basic rights will be included in the program.
By the end of the day, all participants will have thoroughly embraced the theme; “The Power of Each One” of us to make a difference in this law and justice system.
