Barbara Rogers was born Bobbie Louise Williamson on December 28, 1945, in Magee, Mississippi, to the late JD Williamson and Etta Dean Williamson. She was the eldest of 10 children and truly a blessing to her family.
Bobbie attended McLaurin Elementary School and McLaurin High School, where she proudly called herself a Tiger and graduated in 1964.
In 1971, she met and fell in love with her husband of 49 years, Glenn Rogers. In 1975, she and Glenn moved to Seattle, Washington, where she is known as Barbara.
In Seattle, she started her career as a teacher at Bethel Kindergarten Center. As she pursued her passion in the communications industry, it led her to a 34-year career at Pacific Northwest Bell, now known as Lumen, where she retired in 2011.
A woman full of life and love, Bobbie lived each day to the fullest. Bobbie had a generous heart and was always giving of herself and to others. Her greatest joy was her daughter, affectionately known as Bernita.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1975 under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney. Dedicated and involved, Barbara played an active role in the church. She became a member of the diaconate in 2001 and a member of the Women’s Ministries with Harriet Tubman Circle, The United Christian Church Ushers, and a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Usher Board, where she held numerous leadership positions and served as chair of many special programs and committees.
On Sunday, October 19, 2025, Barbara completed her earthly journey and was received into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, JD and Etta Dean Williamson; her brother, Tommy J. Williamson; and her sister, Pamela Frelix.
Barbara leaves to cherish her precious memory: her husband, Glenn Rogers; daughter, Bernita Rogers; sisters, Kathryn Sue Bryant, Mary Jo Frelix, Sarah Richard (Leo), and Sandra McCree; brothers, David Williamson (Sandra), Malcolm Jerome Williamson (Olivia), and Cecil Williamson (Jeremeku); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
The funeral service for Barbara Rogers will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 1634 19th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122.
