In our final regular season game of the week, we had a battle of unbeatens. The Benson Bruins visited the Rainier Ravens in a highly touted 8U matchup that lived up to the hype. The first half was a defensive storm for both teams. There were tackles for a loss, several sacks, and a few fumbles that were caused. Although the Ravens drove down the field on their drives, the Bruins defensive effort was able to hold them scoreless in the first half. The Bruins had a few big gains on their first half possessions, but the defense of the Ravens was determined to keep them from getting in the end zone.
After a balanced first half, the second half was all Ravens. Specifically, it was the J’Shaun Wilson and Tim Tyson show. The first touchdown of the game was scored by Wilson, a spectacular touchdown run of 50 yards in which he looked like a man amongst boys. Well, at least a teenager against boys. Wilson’s touchdown set the tone for the rest of the game as both the Ravens’ offense and defense rallied behind the amazing score.
The Bruins began their second half getting smothered by the defensive line of the Ravens, and their secondary and linebackers came in with added pressure.
After forcing a few three and outs, the Ravens scored on offense again, this time by Tyson. Tyson broke free for the longest run of the game, a 70 yard touchdown, in which no defender stood a chance. After the missed extra point, the Ravens sat in firm control of the game, with the score at 12-0 nearing the end of the 4th.
As the Bruins made one final push towards the endzone, Jy’Kai Hutson came up with the game sealing interception for the Ravens. Jy’Kai, Tim, and J’Shaun all made a comment after the game.
“They played a good game and had good sportsmanship” said J’Shaun.
“I liked the way we played as a team and stood up for each other”, Jy’Kai added.
“I liked Jy’Kai’s pick to end the game,” Tim replied.
