The City of Tacoma's Equity in Contracting team is hosting a workshop on July 16 to educate businesses on the City's bidding, contracting, and procurement process, and to provide information on doing business with the City.

As part of a broader Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) occurrence along the Oregon coast, where several recreational mussel harvesters fell ill over Memorial Day weekend, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is now closely monitoring high levels of PSP in shellfish along Washington’s Pacific Coast. Due to the extreme risk of PSP, all recreational shellfish harvests are prohibited in Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay.

The Seattle Public Library will introduce a new summer hours schedule at several locations across the city beginning Thursday, June 20. This new schedule will distribute hours differently across various locations to meet community needs throughout the summer months.

The Terracon Foundation recently announced a generous $5,000 grant to the Geotechnical Student Support Fund within the Civil and Environmental Engineering program at the University of Washington. This funding aims to both attract students to the program and alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with completing their degrees.

The YMCA of Greater Seattle is set to host its annual Healthy Kids Day This Sat., April 20, starting at 10 a.m. This free event, aimed at giving children and families a healthy start to summer, will be held across 12 locations throughout Greater Seattle.

The Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) announced a $180,000 settlement with Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. following an investigation into alleged breaches of city labor laws. The settlement includes payments totaling $180,266 to 301 employees and an additional $6,230.88 to the City of Seattle.

The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill positions on the Planning Commission for Districts 2, 3 and 5. Applicants seeking a district position must reside in that district. Appointees will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.

The City of Seattle is now accepting applications for the Seattle Youth Commission (SYC), a 15-member commission of ages 13-19 that addresses issues of importance to youth.
