“Seeing all of the lights on houses, Christmas trees and just the scenery around all of the houses was what I loved most about Christmas as a kid, besides the presents, of course.”

“Waking up and not knowing what I’m getting. I loved looking for my gifts under the tree and trying to figure out which ones were for me. Just shaking the gifts and trying to figure them all out!”

“Being with my family, opening gifts, making good food and just seeing smiles on people’s faces.”

“When I was 17, I got my very first paycheck in the military, and I used that money to buy my parents a car for Christmas.”

“I’m from this area. My grandma had a big house on 38, and we would always have all of our family come together. You know, back in the day, how the families had those big round tables? We would always sit around that with the Christmas decorations. This is actually my second holiday without my great-grandma. She passed away last year, so it’s a little different, you know, but I try to keep it alive. I actually bought a Black Santa, and it is next to her pictures on my mantle, because growing up as a kid, I was terrified of the mechanical Santa. My grandma had a big mechanical Santa when we walked in the door, and every time we walked in the door, it started moving, and I’d be like, no. That was always one of my biggest memories, going to my grandma’s house for every holiday, and she would have it out right after Thanksgiving.”

“Being with my mom and dad. We were a family of 11, and I think it’s about six or five of us left. So my fondest memories are being at home with my mom and dad and opening up our presents on Christmas Eve. I grew up in San Francisco in Hunters Point, and the whole neighborhood all got skates, and it would be midnight and all of us kids were outside skating.”
