Endorsements for King County Councilmember Larry Gossett just keep rolling in. Last week, famed, nationally acclaimed, hip hop artist Common, who was in town for a concert at the Moore Theater, endorsed Gossett in his re-election bid for King County Council District 2.
Common, who has an uncommon familiarity with Seattle, invited Gossett backstage after the show to caucus with him, his band and staff. Gossett left the venue with a live endorsement of his re-election effort by Common. In his endorsement of Gossett, Common said, “Hey, I am supporting Larry Gossett in his run for another term on the King County Council, and I want y’all to support him, too.”
In addition to Common’s endorsement, Seattle’s own Angela Rye, who is a renowned speaker, consultant and extremely popular CNN commentator, told Gossett that she too “supports him” and just wants him to “focus on winning” his bid for re-election to the County Council.
According to Gossett, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan recently endorsed his campaign, along with NBA legend and former Seattle Supersonics head coach Lenny Wilkens.
Two Sundays ago, Rev. Dr. David Leslie Braxton dramatically announced to his congregation assembled for first Sunday that he endorsed Larry Gossett and if he lived in his legislative district he’d be casting his vote for Councilmember Gossett. Braxton then turned to his congregation, that numbered nearly a thousand people that morning, and said I hope you all will consider voting or supporting him. too.
At a recent anniversary celebration for the Rev. Shelby Tate, Sr. and his wife for their 33 years of leadership at the Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Tate told Gossett that he was sending him a check and supporting his re-election effort. Most of the dozen or so Pastors on the pulpit that morning, later announced that they, too, would be supporting Gossett because of all his years of dedication, commitment and service to Seattle’s Black community.
Last Sunday, Pastor Eugene Lewis of Emerald City Community Seventh-day Adventist Churchand Rev. Carey Anderson of First A.M.E. Church also announced their support for Gossett in his bid for re-election.
Previously, all eight of Gossett’s colleagues on the King County Council, both Republicans and Democrats, endorsed him and more than half of the current Seattle City Councilmembers have also endorsed Gossett’s re-election bid. Gossett also enjoys the support of Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell and Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson. The Martin Luther King Jr. Labor Council, Boeing Machinist Union, Metro Bus Drivers and many other unions are all supporting Larry Gossett as well.
Ballots for the upcoming primary election were sent out last week and must be mailed back to the County by 8:00 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 6.
