“I think it is just tearing us apart, taking us backwards instead of forward and causing job loss. The economy is not helping us. It’s not serving us in any way, shape or form.”

“Inflation is affecting our community by taking away our health care and our ability to move forward with our schooling and the best start for our kids. So, I feel that it’s really affecting our kids because we’re not going to have the funding to help them move forward and to help them prosper and grow in the community.”

“I don’t even have a problem with inflation. I have a problem with the cost of living. We need to have money in our pockets. If you want to raise the prices of finance and everything out here, we need to raise the pay scale. Minimum wage isn’t doing it for everybody. People are working two and three jobs just to make minimum wage. So, I believe that inflation is going to happen regardless. I deal with it myself because I make products, I have a clothing brand. And every year, the venders go up, and I can’t keep my prices at $20. So I have to raise my prices, too. But the problem is the cost of living. People need to make more money.”

“Our community, we have been here before. With housing and everything that’s unaffordable for us. I think that’s important because we are just kind of getting kicked to the bottom and to the left. But at the same time, this is the time where we should work hard as a community, and Black folks need to come together and organize when we are down in these situations. As far as inflation goes, it’s going to fluctuate. There are algorithms for inflation. So, we have to adjust to it, and that’s what we do best. We adjust to any situation. We can’t go any farther because we are already at the bottom, so all we can do is go up.”

“You know, I think, actually yesterday I experienced what I would call inflation. Being from South Carolina and being out here in Seattle, the cost of living is totally different. I paid $6 for a liter of ginger ale. That was a lot, and I do pretty well for work. But I think we will see inflation and massive layoffs in various industries start to impact a lot of families. With the tariffs and all this type of stuff, it’s just going to add on to it. And I think at the end of the day, we’re going to see a lot of families impacted.”

“I think the community is being affected by the tariffs, which is part of inflation. Trump is coming in thinking that he’s going to run the country with tariffs, and that’s going to destroy the Black community. The Black community is one, but Trump doesn’t want it to be one. He wants it to be torn down, and that’s how it’s going to affect the Black community.”
