In Loving Memory Of Johnnie Mae (Jammie) Brooks-Johnson

Johnnie Mae (Jammie) Brooks-Johnson was born in Marshall, Texas, on May 13, 1947, to parents Lizzie Slade and Juan Balton. During her youth, she and her family moved to Seattle, Washington, where she quietly lived out her years until her death on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the age of 77.

In Seattle, Johnnie Mae grew up with her three siblings and a host of beloved uncles, aunties, and cousins, as her mother was one of twelve children born to the Slade family patriarch and matriarch, Cerra and Maude Slade.

During her formative years, Johnnie Mae attended and graduated from Garfield High School, where she met her first husband. Although their marriage did not last, three beautiful daughters were born from their union.

As a single parent, Johnnie Mae supported her family by working full-time for the Boeing Company as a clerical assistant; she retired in 2003. As the years progressed, she met Malachi Johnson, her second husband, whom she married on July 22, 1991, and together they remained a union until her transition.
