A drive by shooting was reported last Sunday. Four minors were arrested for the shooting on I-5 in Pierce County. There were no injuries. The minors are between the ages of 11 and 16. They were arrested in connection. A road rage incident seems to be the cause.
A driver was cut off by another vehicle on the I-5 interchange ramp to S 38th Street. The driver used his horn and the suspect vehicle slowed down. The front passenger fired five shots at the other vehicle. Two bullets struck the vehicle.
In the case of the minors, the suspects’ vehicle was located by State Troopers on March 24. When spotted, the suspects led deputies on a chase. They were caught and arrested. All were taken into custody. The ages of the suspects are 11, 12, 14 and 16. They were booked into Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center.
More information on the group show that they may have been involved with the theft of ammunition. The minors were booked on drive-by shooting charges and first-degree assault.
Legislators have been debating drive-by shootings. HB 1692 was pre-filed on Dec. 23 by state Representatives Tarra Simmons (D-Bremerton) and David Hackney (D-Tukwila) as part of ongoing criminal justice reform efforts. The bill would re-define aggravated murder to remove drive-by shootings as an aggravating factor that leads to an automatic sentence of life without parole. Republicans were against the bill.
