On the snowy early Sabbath morning of Sat., Feb. 9, Evalyn Arleana Jones passed away quietly at her sister’s home just two weeks shy of her 63rd birthday. At the time of her passing, she was with family.
Jones was born on February 22, 1956, in Seattle, Washington, and was the first baby girl born to Lula Arleana, after whom she was named. Her family being devoted supporters of Christian education, Jones attended Spruce Street Seventh-day Adventist School and Kirkland Seventh-day Adventist School, and later attended Garfield High School.
Intially baptized at Seattle’s First American Methodist Episcopal church, Jones and her sister, Paula, later made the decision to be baptized at Spruce Street Seventh-day Adventist church, which later became the Emerald City Seventh-day Adventist church. After many invitations to attend service with the girls, their mother embraced the faith and was baptized with them. Jones assisted in several church programs, including the Homeless Breakfast Program and Vacation Bible School.
Jones posessed an infectious laugh and charitable spirit which endeared her to anyone privileged to interact with her – she truly possessed a kind heart. When it came to hospitality, Jones was a natural. The gift of excellent cooking was generously passed down to her, and Jones enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Soul Food was her signature cuisine and she was known for macaroni-and-cheese, peach cobbler, candied yams, and potato salad. Being a fun-loving individual, she was an avid Pinochle and dominoes player and often held matches in her home, which she always kept meticulous. Jone was loved, and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and many others.
Jones was predeceased by her mother, Lula Arleana, father, Levi Jones and step-father, Loy Vadus. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Paula Jones and Lois Martin; brother Theo Martin and his wife Gaelyn; four neices and nephews, Bryce Martin, Lloyd Major, Caitlyn Martin and Channing Martin; one uncle, Toney Head of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She also leaves additional cousins and numerous friends.
A viewing is planned for 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by service on Mon., Feb. 18 at the Emerald City Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 801 25th Ave., Seattle, Washington.
