A special night such as Senior night got off to a bang for the Fighting Irish of O’Dea as senior running back Dane Harmann returned the opening kickoff 56 yards to the Garfield 14-yard line, in their game against the Bulldogs Friday night at West Seattle Stadium. From there senior running back Cameron Daniels recorded 25 rushing yards on the Irish’s opening drive, leading to a 1-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Melvin Hopkins, Jr. to give O’Dea a 7-0 lead with 8:12 remaining in the first quarter.

After each team forced each other into 3 and outs on the next two possessions, the Irish struck paydirt again on a beautiful 17-yard play action pass from Hopkins to senior wide receiver Cooper Mathers in the corner of the end zone to give O’Dea a 14-0 lead with 7:12 left in the second quarter.

O’Dea  seemed to be in control of the game and looking to capitalize once again, but Garfield would beg the differ, feeding the Irish a steady diet of senior running back Avery Morrow, who accounted for 32 rushing yards on the possession and an 8-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 21-7 going into halftime in favor of O’Dea.

As the third quarter began, O’Dea continued to matriculate the football into Bulldog territory, capitalizing in the red zone once again on a 1-yard touchdown run from Hopkins. Daniels was able to punch the ball in once more for the Irish, as he scored on an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Lightning delayed the contest and ultimately resulted in a stoppage of game by the referees, giving the Irish a 34-7 victory over the Bulldogs on senior night.

O’Dea’s Cameron Daniels led all rusher with 83 yards and two touchdowns on 16 rushing attempts.
