On-Street Fall Parking Rates Begin

As fall 2023 sets in, Seattleites and visitors alike are gearing up to understand the changes in the on-street paid parking rates. Seattle’s Department of Transportation (SDOT) said the seasonal update is based on street parking data collected from August. On-street paid parking rates in Seattle changed on Monday as part of its seasonal adjustments to curb demand, according to the SDOT.

With the arrival of fall, Seattle’s on-street paid parking system is adapting to the seasonal shift. Fall, with its unpredictable weather and various local events, prompts adjustments in parking rates to accommodate the changing needs of the community. The parking rate adjustments take place at least three times a year.

This system allows parking rates to fluctuate based on demand, ensuring that parking spaces are efficiently utilized. SDOT said overall parking rates will remain to be $2.50 or less an hour at about half the times of day and neighborhoods. Fourteen areas will not see any rate changes and five areas will see reduced rates due to lower demand.

One of the key considerations in setting fall parking rates is supporting local businesses. By strategically adjusting parking prices, the city aims to strike a balance. Affordable parking rates during certain hours can attract customers to local shops and restaurants, boosting the economy and fostering a sense of community. Beginning Oct. 23rd, parking rate adjustments will be made across the city’s 30 different areas. Below are parking rates for morning, afternoons and evenings:
