Top-Seeded Parkland Dominates Gridiron 42-0, Advances To 14U Championship

In the Northwest Premier Junior Football League 14U playoffs, #1 seed Parkland delivered a dominant 42-0 victory over #4 seed Gridiron, securing their spot in the league championship game next Sunday. Parkland’s potent offense and impenetrable defense were on display, as they quickly built a substantial lead and shut down Gridiron’s offensive efforts from the start.

Parkland wasted no time, moving efficiently down the field on their opening drive. Romiece Taviuni started things off with an 8-yard run, followed by a 19-yard pass from quarterback Jadis Lefono to Eurijah Maifea, moving Parkland deep into Gridiron territory. Taviuni capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run, and kicker Robbie Dean’s PAT was good, giving Parkland an early 8-0 lead just 1 minute and 29 seconds into the game.

Parkland continued their aggressive play with an onside kick attempt, but a penalty negated the recovery, pushing them back to their 38-yard line. Undeterred, Lefono launched a deep 56-yard pass to Sosaia Sekona for a touchdown on the next play, extending Parkland’s lead to 14-0 with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter.

Gridiron struggled on their first possession, hampered by penalties and relentless pressure from Parkland’s defense. Linebacker Alden Camba sacked Gridiron’s quarterback for a 5-yard loss, and after two short gains, Gridiron was forced to punt. Reggie Brown returned the punt 37 yards for another touchdown, pushing Parkland’s lead to 20-0 with 2:38 left in the quarter.

After forcing Gridiron into a series of losses and incompletions, Parkland regained possession, driving downfield with key runs from Taviuni and Lefono. Though Gridiron’s defense, led by #99, managed a 10-yard sack, Parkland maintained control. A blocked Gridiron punt allowed Camba to recover the ball at the Gridiron 15-yard line. Despite a holding penalty, Parkland quickly struck again as Lefono connected with Trent Davis on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Dean’s PAT extended the lead to 30-0 with 5:51 left in the second quarter.

Gridiron’s attempts to answer back were consistently thwarted. On their next drive, Parkland’s Sekona intercepted a Gridiron pass, returning it to the 29-yard line and setting up another scoring opportunity. Though Parkland’s drive stalled due to penalties, they entered halftime with a commanding 30-0 lead.

The second half saw Parkland’s defense continue to dominate, as Gridiron faced numerous setbacks, including a false start and a loss on a screen pass. After forcing a punt, Parkland’s return team set them up at midfield. Taviuni and Lefono led a series of runs that moved Parkland to the 25-yard line, and Demetrois Gordon Jr. finished the drive with a 25-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 36-0 with 1:30 left in the third quarter.

Parkland’s defense stayed relentless, with Camba recovering a Gridiron fumble at the 37-yard line. Early in the fourth quarter, Lefono launched a 44-yard touchdown pass to Davis, bringing the score to 42-0. Although the PAT was no good, Parkland held a substantial lead with just over five minutes left in the game.

Gridiron’s final drive saw limited success as they gained a first down with a 10-yard pass to #7 and a short completion to #11, but Parkland’s defensive line, led by Kitiona Tupua and #99, sacked the quarterback on third down. An incomplete pass on fourth down sealed Gridiron’s fate.

With this dominant 42-0 victory, Parkland advances to the 14U championship game, showcasing their formidable offensive and defensive capabilities.
