Pastor Robert Lee Manaway, Sr. was born on July 17, 1958 in Picayune, Mississippi.Raised in Hattiesburg, MS, he is the 6th of 8 children born to the late Mr. Samuel and Mrs. Josephine Manaway. Dr. Manaway accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at age 14 in June of 1972, and accepted his call to preach the gospel at age 17 on May 19, 1976. This young minister was ordained in 1977 and subsequently accepted a call to Pastor the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Ellisville, MS at the age of 19 and served in this role for six years.Dr. Manaway enrolled in William Carey College and graduated in 1983 with a BS in Counseling Psychology, Supported with a minor in English. In July of 1983 the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church extended an invitation to Pastor Manaway to serve as shepherd of the congregation. On the 20th of November 1983, Pastor Robert L. Manaway Sr. preached his first pastoral elect sermon and was officially installed as Pastor of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.During his tenure as the Senior Pastor, Dr. Manaway has continued his education and has earned his Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry degrees. In addition, he attended Highline Community College from 1994-1996 earning a certificate degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling. He completed his dissertation in 2004 on Nouthetic Counseling, and recently received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from NOVA South East University. Together, Pastor Manaway and Lady Jessica have embodied the best aspects of servant leadership in their roles as Pastor and Overseer at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for 26 years.Married since March 29, 1981, the Manaway’s are the parents of 5 children (4 sons, 1 daughter) and the delighted grandparents of 6. They are both avid supporters of youth and each enjoys special relationships with Tabernacle’s Youth Department, Educational, Missions, Singles, Family, and Community activities.
