“I would say absolutely, just because I think heritage, especially in a time like this, is so important to stay connected and to stay grounded and rooted in who you are as a person, but also remember where you came from at the same time.”

“I would say that anyone’s heritage and culture is just the root of who they are. So, going back to your roots and who you are is the foundation. The foundation of knowing who you are as an individual. And Black people have a very strong culture, strong roots, and we do have a strong foundation. That’s what builds you as a person, and it affects you in your day-to-day life, whether you know it or not.”

“Yes, because it’s history. There is nobody who is going to put yourself first like yourself. Nobody is going to preserve our history like we will, because they are going to try to change and manipulate it. So yes, I think it is important that we preserve those things, or else they are going to try to change it and manipulate it if we don’t preserve it.”

“Everyone has an opinion, and every race has an opinion, so we all need to be embraced in some kind of way. I’m currently doing research, and I’m emphasizing rap and how it has developed and how it has emphasized the voices, especially now that we have the Grammys going on, you can see that Black culture has embraced their voice. They emphasize where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. I am a big music and arts guy, so preserving our history around that is important, and also just seeing how we have influenced media.”

“When I think about preserving Black history as a whole, in general, it should not be changed. It is a way to show our story and our origins. But we need to preserve it in a way that can keep it going and not fall back into the same mistakes that we have been taught before. We need to be strong and keep preserving the way our culture is.”

“I do think we need to preserve our own culture in media because it’s important for people of my color, and even people my age, to understand our history and where we come from. You know, a lot of people don’t understand the difficulties our ancestors and our people went through, and for Black children like me to be walking on campuses and walking around freely in general is so important.”
