Respect. I don’t think it matters when it comes to the African American. We are discriminated against on the regular. What we need to be address is simple – respect. After that we can talk about policy and other issues.

Police brutality for one. Regardless who is in office the African American community must hold them accountable when it comes to the injustices perpetrted against us. When we are able to walk the streets or just live without the harassment from the law then we can breath.

As a Latin American our problems resemble those of the African American. Subtle differences, but voter suppression is an issue that needs to be addressed. Of course as a part of the minority community immigration is very important. I also believe education is an issue that should come to the forefront as well.

Man, there are so many issues that are important to our community. Economics and employment. The strengthening of our business community. Of course the legal issues of mass incarceration and police misconduct and accountability. Voter suppression must be looked at. I mean there are a lot of things that can be looked at from a political standpoint that can help our community.

Voter suppression and the manipulation of some politicians to hinder the voting rights of all is something that I see is a fundamental and pressing issue. Without the voice and the vote the needs of the community would be overlooked by the elite and the governing bodies. Women and minority rights need to be protected with this particular president and the divisive rhetoric he is spewing, minorities and women must get involved and express their voice.

Health care is a vital and pressing issue. Families are out here struggling and the rising cost of health care is just hard on folks. The police is an issue that must be addressed. With all the negativity going on in politics and society, some people are feeling emboldened and it makes for dangerous times. Just look at all the violence going on. We must find politicians who possess empathy for their communities to help change the negative environment.
