Community Leaders Gather In Kent For Town Hall To Discuss Project 2025

Angela Rye

Leaders from across Puget Sound will gather for “Election 2024: Project 2025 Town Hall” this Wednesday, July 31 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, located at 19300 108th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98031. This public event invites community members to engage in a crucial discussion on Project 2025 and the current election season. Speakers include United States Senator Patty Murray, U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, and U.S. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal.

The town hall will start with civil rights attorney Lem Howell, Esq., who will explain Project 2025 and its potential impacts. Other speakers will then share their views, comparing the project to a more inclusive vision for the United States and Washington. After their remarks, there will be a Q&A session for community interaction. Voter registration opportunities will be available throughout the event.

Representative Tomiko Santos expressed her concerns about Project 2025.

“Project 2025 is an explicit and comprehensive instruction manual for rolling back policies advanced by the Civil Rights Act and the War on Poverty. This generation cannot and must not allow our own ignorance and complacency to have a hand in the eradication of these hard-won civil rights and freedoms secured by those who preceded us. Rather, we must arm ourselves with a precise understanding of how this conservative agenda threatens our children, our elders, and our communities. Then, we must spring into action: spread the warning and get out the vote!”

Derrick Wheeler-Smith from the City of Seattle Office of Civil Rights also highlighted the potential risks that Project 2025 presents to the country.

“Project 2025 could undermine our country’s checks and balances that safeguard our democracy. Our civil liberties, environmental regulations, and labor rights are at stake. Getting engaged and voting against Project 2025 this fall is crucial to maintain equitable protections that protect justice, fairness, and opportunity for all Americans.”

Angela Rye stressed the importance of community members understanding the project.

“Understanding Project 2025 is imperative to preserve democracy and constructing the more perfect union we all deserve.”

Ram Dixi, President of the MLK Gandhi Empowerment Initiative, warned against divisive agendas:

“The strength of our country is in our people working together as one for a common goal. Radical and divisive agendas that attempt to pit our people against each other only serve to weaken us and help our adversaries.”
