Do You Believe It Is Necessary For The Government To Take Action To Protect HBCUs And College Campuses?

Fontane:
“Yes. They are shutting down all of our colleges and stuff; they don’t even want that to exist. I mean, along with everything else that they destroy. More needs to be done for our HBCUs; that is the bottom line.”
Angel:
“Yes. I feel like they need to be more cautious and careful on campuses—not with more security, because it is going to make kids feel unsafe—but just more people checking in with kids’ mental health and well-being on campus. And I feel like they should make clubs for people to talk about their situations—either safety, family problems, or money problems—and the government for sure can help with money.”
Peter:
“Yes. Get rid of the gatekeepers—the Black people that look like us but don’t represent us. That is the first thing we need to do. And we just need to come to terms with the fact that America is a racist place, and the gatekeepers keep us blind to the fact that they are giving us false hope and no results. We need to come together, be unified, and get rid of the racism in schools and everywhere.”
Jamal:
“Yes. But the bottom line is that the government is corrupt; everything about the government is corrupt. They are trying to cut off all the benefits from the poor people. That is all Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a devil and a demon. Get ready, people, there is a train coming; you don’t need any baggage—just get on board.”
Shane:
“Yes, it is necessary. These kids today are getting exposed to a lot of things that they are not ready for, or getting exposed to things that are repercussions from other things going on. For example, some Black colleges are getting threats that have nothing to do with recent events. All schools should be protected; they have to do something.”
Trina:
“It depends on the threat. There is only so much the government can do with certain threats, but a little bit of stepping in to investigate where they are coming from would be pretty nice to help get to the root of it. But once the threats are already in motion, I don’t think there is much the government can do.”
