Three-Alarm Fire Strikes Seattle’s Leschi Neighborhood

Seattle firefighters responded to a significant fire in the Central District on Friday night, which became visible from the I-90 bridge. The blaze broke out around 7:45 p.m. on 34th Avenue, initially causing minor concerns but quickly escalating to a three-alarm response due to its intensity and the dangers posed by downed power lines. Fire crews worked diligently to protect nearby homes as the flames threatened to spread.

The fire department reported that the flames originated on the back deck of a two-story house, rapidly engulfing the interior and extending to a carport. Witnesses noted that by the time firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out from all four sides of the structure, prompting an urgent need for a defensive firefighting strategy. Crews established a safe perimeter, using water hoses from a distance to combat the inferno while safeguarding adjacent residences.

By 8:05 p.m., fire crews had set up a ladder truck in front of the burning building to spray water from a higher vantage point, enhancing their efforts to contain the blaze. Fortunately, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading further, saving several homes that were at risk. Despite the damage incurred by the flames, there were no injuries reported among residents or firefighters.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by approximately 8:30 p.m., successfully containing it to the original house. As a precaution, however, nearby homes were evacuated to ensure residents’ safety during the firefighting efforts. Two individuals trapped inside the burning house were able to escape unharmed, thanks to the swift actions of the emergency responders.
