BALLOT MEASURES:

The City of Seattle’s Proposition 1 concerns renewing a levy to maintain and improve core Library services. If approved, this proposition would sustain investments and increase spending for Library operating hours, materials, technology, children’s programming, and building maintenance, including earthquake retrofits, as provided in Ordinance 125809. Consistent with chapter 84.55 RCW, it would increase regular property taxes for seven years. The 2020 tax increase, up to $0.122/$1,000 of assessed value, would be used to compute limitations for subsequent levies, with up to 1% annual increases. Seniors, veterans, and others who qualify under RCW 84.36.381 would be exempt.Should this Levy be approved?
Yes
CANDIDATES:
Metropolitan King County, Council District No. 2
Larry Gossett

Gossett has been rock solid in his support of minorities and under-served communities during his tenure as a King County councilmember. He served as budget chair during some of the worst economics times the County has had to deal with in recent years and he balanced the budget and kept as much funding as possible for services that are vital to our most vulnerable members of our community He spearheaded the efforts to rename the county after Martin Luther King, Jr. and the changing of the official county logo to an image of Dr. King. Gossett has the support of all eight members of the King County Council, both Democrats and Republicans, and he deserves a chance to finish his life’s work of making King County a better place for everyone.

City of Renton, Council Position 3
Linda M. Smith

This race is one where there is not wrong choice as Valerie O’Halloran, James Alberson and Linda Smith would all make great additions to the Renton City Council. Unfortunately, they are all running for the same seat. However, Smith has a long-standing history of fighting for those who need help the most. The fierce drive that she brings to the City Council will make sure that the issues of voiceless will always be heard.

City of Seattle, Council District 2
Tammy Morales and Mark Solomon appear to be the best choices for this position.
City of Seattle, Council District 3
Pat Murakami

This race features four people that we really wish were running for four different positions, unfortunately they are all in the same race. Councilmember Kshama Sawant has, on many occasions, been the lone vote on the council in the area of social consciousness, and her current push for rent control in the city is sparking a city-wide debate that may not take place without her leadership. However, Murakami brings a feistiness and an ability to create a consensus without over-compromising her position that cannot be overlooked. A head-to-head battle in the general election between Sawant and Murakami will bode well for voters in the District 3.
