Seattle Prep Claims Automatic Bid To State 3A Playoffs With 13-0 Win over Rainier Beach In Metro League Tie-Breaker

After defeating Bishop Blanchet 20-0 in the first round of the Metro League tie-breaker, Seattle Prep squared off with Rainier Beach to decide the 4th and 5th place seeds in the Metro League.

The rules of the tie-breaker allowed for two 10-minute halves, with the winner advancing to state, while the loser would face a loser-out game against the West Seattle Wildcats (4-2).

Seattle Prep, who had just completed their tie-breaker against Blanchet, came out strong as Ezra Maul scored on a 22-yard touchdown run with 6:12 left in the first half, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

Rainier Beach would turn the ball over on downs as they went for it on 4th and two on the 44-yard line but came up inches short of getting the first down. However, the Rainier Beach defense held strong and forced Seattle Prep to punt.

Rainier Beach would threaten to score again, but Seattle Prep would break up a pass intended for Rainier Beach receiver SirJewel Glover with thirty-five seconds left in the half to cling to a 7-0 halftime lead.

Seattle Prep would recover an onside kick attempt to begin the second half, setting up a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Beau Oaksmith to Alec Greenwood to give the Panthers a 13-0 lead.

The two teams would continue to trade possessions for the remainder of the game as Seattle Prep secured 4th place in Metro and an automatic bid to the state 3A playoffs.
