Shots Injured Victims During Illegal Street Racing

Street racing is in the news again. This time due to gun violence. Four people were injured after a shooting during a street racing takeover in Capitol Hill early Sunday morning. One person was reported to be in critical condition. Not too long after midnight, police responded to a report of a large crowd and vehicles driving recklessly at the intersection of Broadway and E Pike Street. Gun fire was heard by cops a short time later.

Officers found two victims at the intersection of Broadway and E Pike Street and performed life-saving measures on both subjects until medical personnel arrived on the scene. One male victim, presumably in his late 20’s, was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital in stable condition. A female also in her 20’s-30’s was treated for life-threatening injuries and transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

A third victim contacted officers. She was several blocks away but was also a victim of a gunshot. She left but later arrived at Harborview Medical Center. A fourth male victim also showed up at Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

More gunshots were heard by officer while on the scene near the 1400 block of Harvard Avenue. That victim told officers that he was shot at. Shell casings were found. Officers blocked off the scene as they unsuccessfully looked for the suspect. Homicide detectives along with the Crime Scene Investigation Unit  arrived on scene.

Still, there is no report yet of officers identifying a suspect. Residents told local media that street racing was taking place when all of the shooting happened. Others said an illegal street race type of side show was taking place there earlier. The roadway was blocked off west from Broadway because of the Capitol Hill Block Party.
