Seattle police are currently investigating a string of shootings that left three individuals injured across the city early Saturday morning. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with any of the incidents.
The first shooting occurred around midnight at the Mount Baker Transit Station, where a 38-year-old man suffered two non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his left leg. He arrived at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) at approximately 1:40 a.m. after a friend drove him there. The victim reported hearing gunfire before feeling pain and realizing he had been shot. Hospital security captured video footage of his drop-off, and the Seattle Police Department (SPD) has since reached out to Sound Transit Police to secure any relevant evidence from the transit center.
A few hours later, at around 5:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire near North 128th Street and Aurora Avenue North. Shortly thereafter, a 29-year-old woman arrived at Northwest Hospital (NWH) with a gunshot wound to her leg. She recounted to police that while working along Aurora and speaking with a potential customer, she heard an argument followed by gunshots. In her attempt to escape, she was struck in the leg. With the help of a passing driver, she made her way to the hospital.
At the scene of this shooting, officers discovered multiple shell casings and a small blood trail believed to belong to the victim. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) has since been notified and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, although no arrests have been made.
The third shooting was reported at approximately 6:20 a.m. when another victim, a 26-year-old man, sought treatment at HMC for gunshot wounds to his leg and back. He told police that he was shot while standing outside a hookah lounge in the SODO district. The victim claimed he was struck from behind by unknown suspects and suffered additional injuries while fleeing. An unidentified person dropped him off near a gas station, telling him he was close to the hospital, from where he walked a couple of blocks to reach the emergency department.
This victim was reportedly uncooperative with officers and mentioned that he had recently moved to Seattle from Arizona, adding to the challenges of the investigation.
As the investigations into all three shootings remain open and active, police are continuing to gather evidence and seek information from the public. The uptick in gun violence has raised concerns within the community, prompting calls for increased safety measures and preventive actions.
