Support Continues To Grow For David Hackney In 11th District Legislative Race

David Hackney

Support continues to grow for David Hackney in the race for 11th Legislative District Representative, Position 1. Hackney has become the only candidate to earn the endorsement of a local Democratic organization upon earning the sole endorsement of the King County Young Democrats. Hackney has also earned more votes than the incumbent during the 11th LD Democrats endorsement meeting in May, and was one vote shy of earning their sole endorsement.

In addition to earning the sole local Democratic endorsement of the primary, Hackney has also earned the sole endorsement of UAW 4121, the Union of Academic Student Employees & Postdocs at the University of Washington.

“Despite the challenges of campaigning during a quarantine, our message of representation that reflects the new dynamics of the 11th is resonating with not just longtime community activists, but regular everyday voters who are hungry for change,” said Hackney.

Beyond the new organizational endorsements, Hackney also earned the endorsement of progressive champion Sen. Joe Nguyen.

“The 11th Legislative District deserves representation that reflects the values and diversity of the community, and that’s why I am proud to endorse David Hackney for State Representative,” said Nguyen. “I am confident David will be a champion for the working families of the 11th.”

These endorsements and fundraising numbers accompany the endorsements of stalwart progressives King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay, Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho, Seattle School Boardmember Brandon Hersey, and former State Representative Jessyn Ferrell.

Hackney, who currently serves as a Washington State Human Rights Commissioner, is an attorney and community advocate who began his legal career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, where he tried more than 20 criminal jury trials including homicide, narcotics, fraud, tax, and bank robbery cases.

The 11th Legislative District covers Georgetown and other parts of South Seattle, Tukwila, Renton, and Kent. The seat is currently held by Rep. Zach Hudgins.
