The Royal Esquire Club Presented Twelve Scholarships To Local High School Students

The Royal Esquire Club (REC) presented twelve scholarships to local high school students represeinting Garfield, Rainier Beach, Roosevelt, Renton, and Lindberg High Schools. The following scholarship recipients received $500.00 each from the Bertram C. Williams Education Scholarship Fund: Amber McDowell, Brittney Smith, Theresa James, Ciara Lee, Au Jonae Wells, Keyanna Johnson, and Danyell Bivens. The Bertram C. Williams Education Scholarship Fund was named in honor of one of the Royal Esquire Club’s Charter Members. Over the years “Bert” held numerous elected and appointed positions, numerous terms as President, and Board Chairman. His passion was for the Club to promote education and charitable acts that could benefit the community, and he was one of the original members to establish the Scholarship & Charitable Committees. In 2006, the general members of the REC voted to name the Education Scholarship in his honor. Woneata Hart-Stallworth, Jonathan Amosa, and Keisha Credit each received $500.00 scholarships from funds donated to the REC by Robin Finley in the name of her deceased husband Julius (Skipp) Finley, who was a member of the Royal Esquire Club. These scholarship awards are presented to students with an interest in degrees in aerospace engineering or computer science, because Julius Finley was an employee of the Boeing Company. In addition, Jeremy Ellis and Alexander Dugdale received $500.00 scholarships from funds donated by the Woody Woodhouse Music Foundation. The Scholarship, established in honor of Woody Woodhouse, is awarded to deserving students as an incentive to begin or continue the post-secondary study of music with special emphasis on the study of jazz. All of the scholarship recipients are very talented young men and women, and have achieved excelled academically. The scholarship recipients have been accepted to attend various colleges and universities, including the University of Washington, Pacific Lutheran University, Howard University, Virginia State University, Spellman University; and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. 1
