Renton Rangers Role Over Swac Cougars To Stay UnbeatenRenton rangers, riding a six game winning streak, took their show on the road to what should have been a great matchup. Early in the first half, the Rangers got off to a strong start with a huge performance by the sleek footed running back Miles Damon who scored three touchdowns in the contest as the offensive line for the Rangers opened up massive running lanes for the back field. The Ranger’s quarterback Deshawn Walkins proved he also is a very dangerous runner in his own right. Midway through the second quarter with bad weather, the Cougars, led by quarterback Zach Luz, game plan was to run the ball. That proved to be a tall task yet producing some nice runs. Their offense stalled as they began to really struggle; the Rangers turn it up on defense, not allowing the Swac Cougars to make any significant penetration into their territory. That was the story of the day. The Rangers defense was all over the Cougs running backs and quarterback throughout the game. With the Rangers rolling with a 12 point lead, Renton definitely felt their edge and grew more confident when Swac QB threw an ill advised pass that was intercepted and returned by Damon for his second touchdown, bumping the lead to 18 points. Late in the period, the onslaught continued as both teams played a hard-fought battle in the trenches until the Rangers struck again with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter. Reggie Witherspoon lll made his presence felt as he took a screen pass 45 yards for their third score of the day, dashing any hope for the Swac Cougs. As the weather became a major factor in the fourth quarter for both teams, the game became difficult for players to grip and hold on to the ball. Still unable to move the ball for any decent yardage, the Cougs gave it up on downs with the ball on the 38 yard line. Damon got it out of the eye with five minutes and 26 seconds to go, as he was caught in the backfield, which should have been for a loss on the play, and turned it into a 40 yard run and his third score as he reversed field and took it in for a touchdown, putting the finishing touches on a dominating exhibition of talent and skill, and helped his team stay undefeated. Final score was 32-0. Coach Robbie from Renton Rangers stated, “We played good in the bad weather and we played a great ground and pound game.”
